About This Plant

Alocasia Frydek Variegated is a rare mutation of Alocasia micholitziana, native to the tropical rainforests of the Philippines. It has the same deep green, velvety arrow-shaped leaves and bold white veining as the standard Frydek, but with irregular cream and white variegated patches. They appear differently on each leaf.

Every leaf is different. The cream and white variegation is random and genetically unpredictable, which means the plant you receive will have its own unique pattern. Some leaves show large cream sectors, others have speckles or patches alongside the white veining.

Keep it away from pets and children. The ASPCA confirms Alocasia spp. is toxic to cats and dogs. The leaves contain insoluble calcium oxalates that cause mouth pain, drooling, swelling, and vomiting if chewed. Keep it on a high shelf or in a room pets cannot reach.

The variegated leaves need more light than the standard Frydek. Cream and white leaf sectors contain less chlorophyll, which means variegated plants need brighter indirect light to photosynthesize effectively. The Alocasia Dragon Scale is ideal if you want more variety in your collection.

How to Take Care of Alocasia Frydek Variegated

Bright indirect light is essential. The variegated sectors need more light than an all-green plant to photosynthesize. An east-facing window in a Canadian home is ideal. Avoid direct sun which burns the velvety leaf surface.

Light: Medium to bright indirect
