I received my string of turtle today, though I ordered a small one most of the leaves look healthy and happy I kind of wish it had a few more strands but I’m going to work hard to make sure it’s happy and healthy! For winter protection they wrapped it in cotton I’m super happy with all my plants so far!

The Stromanthe Triostar was the last plant I unwrapped from my second order from mygreenscape.ca. I gasped when I saw this beautiful plant with its long leaves of dark and light pink and green. The underside of the leaves are deep pink. And it has some stripes, especially underneath. She is very healthy and has a few new leaves unfurling. All the plants were packaged up very well. How to care for extra small plants

Small pots dry fast. Check the top 1 inch of soil every 3 to 5 days. If it feels dry, water slowly until a few drops escape the drainage hole. And in winter, cut watering by about half. Cold rooms hold moisture longer, so roots rot quickly in soggy soil.

Common problems and quick fixes

Tiny pots dry out in a day on hot radiators. Lift the pot. If it feels feather light, soak it in a bowl for 10 minutes. Let it drain. Leaves usually bounce back within hours.

Yellow, mushy leaves mean too much water. Stop watering. Move the pot to a brighter spot. And if the soil smells sour, repot into fresh, airy mix. Add perlite for faster drainage.

Stems reaching sideways? That's a light cry for help. Move the plant 1 to 2 feet closer to the window. Or add a small 15 watt grow light during dark GTA months. Rotate the pot weekly.

Fungus gnats love soggy soil. Let the top dry between waterings. Spider mites show up in dry winter heat. Rinse leaves in a lukewarm shower every 2 weeks. For stubborn cases, wipe leaves with a cotton swab dipped in 70 percent isopropyl alcohol.
