About This Plant

Calamondin Orange (Citrus x microcarpa) is a dwarf hybrid citrus tree believed to originate from a cross between a mandarin orange and a kumquat, widely grown across Southeast Asia. Indoors it produces glossy, dark green oval leaves, small white flowers with an intensely sweet fragrance.

It flowers and fruits indoors and the blooms are intensely fragrant. Few indoor plants smell as strongly and sweetly as a Calamondin in bloom. The small white flowers produce a citrus fragrance that fills a room. When the flowers drop, small green fruits form that ripen to orange over several weeks. The tree can have flowers and fruit in different stages at the same time.

Keep it away from pets. The ASPCA confirms Citrus species are toxic to cats, dogs, and horses. The leaves, fruit peel, and essential oils contain compounds called psoralens and limonene that cause vomiting, diarrhea, depression, and photosensitivity in pets.
