About This Plant

Croton Banana (Codiaeum variegatum Banana) is native to the tropical forests and scrublands of Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. It grows upright and bushy, reaching 60 to 90 cm tall indoors, and the warm yellow-orange tones make it one of the brighter and more summery-looking Crotons available.

The long strap leaves and warm yellow striping set it apart from other Crotons. Unlike the broad oval leaves of Mammy Croton or the small spotted leaves of Gold Dust, the Banana Croton has an elongated leaf form with clear yellow and orange bands that run the length of each leaf.

Keep it away from pets and children. The ASPCA confirms Codiaeum variegatum is toxic to cats, dogs, and horses. The latex sap contains skin irritants and ingestion causes vomiting and diarrhea. Wear gloves when pruning as the sap can irritate skin. Keep it out of reach of pets and small children.
