About This Plant

Angel Wing Begonia is a hybrid of cane-stemmed begonias native to tropical South America. It grows on upright, bamboo-like stems with large, asymmetric wing-shaped leaves in deep green covered in silver or white spots, with rich burgundy or red undersides.

The spotted leaves and burgundy undersides set it apart. The combination of silver polka dots on deep green with a rich burgundy reverse gives each leaf a different look from above and below. The plant also flowers reliably indoors when it gets enough indirect light.

Keep it away from pets and children. The ASPCA confirms Begonia spp. is toxic to cats, dogs, and horses. The soluble calcium oxalates in the leaves and especially the roots cause vomiting, salivation, and drooling if ingested. Keep it on a high shelf or in a room pets cannot reach.

It blooms reliably in a bright window. Unlike many indoor plants that rarely flower, the Angel Wing Begonia produces clusters of delicate hanging blooms from spring through summer when placed near a bright east-facing window.
