Common Questions
How often should I water the Anthurium Jenmanii Gold?
Water when the top one to two inches of the aroid mix feel dry. In spring and summer that is roughly every seven to ten days. In a Canadian winter, cut back to every two weeks. This plant is sensitive to overwatering. Our indoor plant watering guide shows exactly how to check moisture before watering.
Does it flower indoors?
Not typically. Unlike most anthuriums sold for their colourful spathes, the Jenmanii is grown as a foliage plant. It rarely flowers indoors under typical Canadian conditions. The appeal is entirely in the bold, structural leaves and the golden-to-green colour transition each new leaf displays.
Is the Anthurium Jenmanii Gold toxic to cats and dogs?
Yes. The ASPCA confirms Anthurium spp. is toxic to cats and dogs. The leaves contain insoluble calcium oxalate crystals, which cause mouth pain, drooling, swelling, and vomiting if chewed. Keep it in a location that pets and small children cannot reach.
Why is the golden colour disappearing on new leaves?
The golden phase is temporary and normal. Each new leaf starts gold and matures to deep green over a few weeks. If new leaves are coming in very green from the start with almost no golden phase, the plant may need more bright indirect light. Read our guide to light requirements for indoor plants to check if the plant is getting enough.
Will it survive a Canadian winter indoors?
Yes. Keep it above 18°C, away from cold glass and heating vents. Growth slows significantly from November to February. Run a humidifier nearby as the dry forced-air heating in Ontario and Quebec homes stresses the large leaves. Reduce watering and stop fertilizing until spring. Our tips on keeping plants alive in winter cover what to watch for.
