I received my string of turtle today, though I ordered a small one most of the leaves look healthy and happy I kind of wish it had a few more strands but I’m going to work hard to make sure it’s happy and healthy! For winter protection they wrapped it in cotton I’m super happy with all my plants so far!

Breathtaking!

The Stromanthe Triostar was the last plant I unwrapped from my second order from mygreenscape.ca. I gasped when I saw this beautiful plant with its long leaves of dark and light pink and green. The underside of the leaves are deep pink. And it has some stripes, especially underneath. She is very healthy and has a few new leaves unfurling. All the plants were packaged up very well. How to Care for Low Maintenance Plants

Most low maintenance plants prefer bright, indirect light. But they adapt when conditions shift. ZZ plants handle shady corners without losing their glossy shine. Snake plants tolerate everything from low light to filtered sun. And golden pothos grows happily under office fluorescents. Keep one rule in mind. Skip harsh afternoon sun from south-facing windows. It burns leaves within an hour. So place plants 50 to 80 cm back, or hang a sheer curtain. But Canadian winters shrink daylight hours fast. Shift pots closer to windows from November to March. And you'll notice stronger growth by spring.

Common Problems with Low Maintenance Plants

Yellow leaves usually point to one culprit. Too much water. So check the soil right away. Soggy? Stop watering. Let the pot dry out completely. This takes 7 to 14 days depending on pot size and room temperature. And trim away mushy or black roots if you repot. But prevention is simple. Learn the basics and you'll dodge this entirely.

When stems stretch toward the window with wide gaps between leaves, your plant wants more light. So shift it 30 cm closer. That small move makes a real difference. And rotate the pot a quarter turn weekly so every side gets balanced light. But also prune leggy stems back by a third. New growth comes back bushier. This happens most during Canadian winters when daylight drops under 9 hours.

Dry air causes this. And Canadian forced-air furnaces are the worst offender. Humidity below 25% crisps leaf edges within days. Group your low maintenance plants together to lift local humidity. Or run a small humidifier nearby. But don't mist ZZ or snake plants. They hate wet leaves. Brown tips also appear from mineral buildup. So flush the soil with clean water monthly to wash out fertiliser salts.

Mushy, dark roots smell sour. That's rot. So act quickly. Lift the plant from its pot. And cut off every soft, brown root with clean scissors. Let the roots air-dry for 2 to 3 hours on a paper towel. Then repot in fresh, well-draining soil. But halve your watering routine going forward. Pots without drainage holes almost guarantee root rot. So always pick pots with holes.
