Medium to bright indirect light brings out the blue iridescence most vividly. A north- or east-facing window works well. The shimmer fades in very low light. Avoid direct sun which bleaches and scorches the delicate fronds.

A grow light is worth considering for this plant in Canadian homes during the short-day months of October through February. The blue iridescence is directly tied to adequate light. Without enough, the fronds look standard green and the unique shimmer disappears.

Water when just the top centimetre of soil feels slightly dry. Every five to seven days in spring and summer, seven to ten days in a Canadian winter. Never let it dry out completely. The fronds lose their shimmer and tip colour when the plant is drought-stressed.

Needs humidity above 60 percent to maintain the iridescent shimmer on the fronds. The dry forced-air heating in Ontario and Quebec homes is the biggest challenge for this plant. A humidifier nearby, a pebble tray, or growing it in a terrarium are the most effective solutions from November to March.
