The **China Doll** is native to the subtropical mountain regions of southern China and Taiwan. Interestingly, in its natural habitat, it can grow into a massive tree reaching over 30 feet tall! It only became popular as a houseplant in the 1980s when growers discovered its ability to thrive in smaller containers. It is prized for its "feathery" look and is often used by interior designers to soften modern spaces with its delicate aesthetic.

The secret to a happy China Doll is **consistency**. They dislike change, so find a good spot and let them stay there!

• **Light:** Requires **lots of bright, indirect light**. At least 4–5 hours of bright light is essential. If the light is too low, the plant will become leggy and sparse.
• **Water:** Keep the soil consistently moist but never soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. **Caution:** If it dries out completely, it may drop its leaves in protest!
• **Humidity:** Thrives in moderate to high humidity. If your home is dry, use a humidifier or place the pot on a pebble tray to prevent the foliage from crisping.
• **Soil:** Use a high-quality, well-draining potting mix. A mix designed for tropicals with some perlite for aeration is ideal.
• **Temperature:** Prefers stable temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C). Avoid placing it near drafty doors, windows, or heating vents.
• **Pruning:** Since it grows fast, don't be afraid to trim it back occasionally to maintain its bushy, compact shape.
