The Story Behind This Plant

Native to Southeast Asia, especially Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, Kaffir Lime thrives in warm, humid climates and is now grown worldwide in pots for cooking and home gardens. Its glossy double-leaf structure and bumpy fruit make it instantly recognizable.

How to Keep It Happy
  • Light: Needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight every day to grow well.
  • Water: Water 1-1.5 inches per week. In hot weather, water every 2-3 days to keep the soil slightly moist, not soggy.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix designed for citrus.
  • Indoor growing: Place near a sunny window or under a bright grow light.

Bring a Taste of Thailand to Your Kitchen

We hand pick each Citrus Kaffir Lime Tree and pack it carefully so it arrives in good shape anywhere in Ontario or Quebec.

Sun: Full to Partial

Indoors, place your Kaffir Lime Tree near a south or west-facing window where it gets bright, indirect light for most of the day. During winter, when daylight is limited, supplement with a full-spectrum grow light to keep the leaves healthy and vibrant.

Light: Bright Direct

Citrus Kaffir Lime Trees need 4–6 hours of direct morning sunlight or filtered afternoon sun daily. For outdoor growth, choose a spot with plenty of sunshine but avoid harsh, scorching midday light.

Water: When half dry

Let the top 1 inch of soil dry before watering again. Always use well-draining soil and a pot with drainage holes to prevent root rot. In winter, the tree’s growth slows, so reduce watering frequency but avoid letting the soil dry out completely.

Humidity: Medium

Citrus Kaffir Lime Trees prefer 40–60% humidity. Mist the leaves or place the pot on a pebble tray with water during low-humidity periods, especially in winter.

Pet Friendly: Caution

Citrus leaves and oils can be toxic to cats and dogs. Keep the plant out of reach of curious pets.

Pro Tip

Rotate the tree every 2–3 weeks for balance growth. In summer, move it outdoors for extra sunlight, but bring it back inside when temperatures drop below 10°C (50°F).

Great First Impressions!

It’s only been about 10 days, but so far I’m really happy with my kaffir lime plant! It arrived looking healthy, with beautiful glossy leaves, and seems to be settling in nicely. I’m cautiously optimistic… although history suggests that plants should probably be cautious around me. 😄

I would absolutely love any tips for keeping it happy. I have the opposite of a green thumb, but I’m determined to give this little tree its best chance at a long and productive life. Watering, sunlight, feeding, pruning—I’ll happily take all the advice I can get!
