About This Plant

Gasteraloe 'Green Ice' is a hybrid succulent created from a cross between Gasteria and Aloe, both native to southern Africa. The leaves have small, soft marginal teeth along the edges. It grows in a tight, low rosette reaching 15 to 25 cm across.

The frosted icy speckled leaf surface gives it a cool character. The combination of the blue-green base colour, the white spotting, and the slightly textured waxy surface gives Green Ice a cold, crystalline appearance that is different from most warm-toned succulents.

Safe for cats and dogs. Gasteraloe hybrids are confirmed non-toxic to cats and dogs by multiple veterinary sources. The marginal teeth on the leaf edges are soft and not a physical hazard. The Gasteria Little Warty is the pure Gasteria parent genus, also confirmed pet-safe, for comparison.

It handles lower light better than most succulents. They need bright direct light. Gasteraloe Green Ice handles medium to lower indirect light without becoming leggy, which is inherited from the Gasteria side of its parentage.

Winter Dormancy

Growth slows significantly or stops from October through February. Water once every four to six weeks during dormancy with a very small amount. Keep above 10 degrees C, in your brightest available window, and in a dry room. The frosted colour stays stable through Canadian winter. No fertilizer until spring.

Pests
