I received my string of turtle today, though I ordered a small one most of the leaves look healthy and happy I kind of wish it had a few more strands but I’m going to work hard to make sure it’s happy and healthy! For winter protection they wrapped it in cotton I’m super happy with all my plants so far!

The Stromanthe Triostar was the last plant I unwrapped from my second order from mygreenscape.ca. I gasped when I saw this beautiful plant with its long leaves of dark and light pink and green. The underside of the leaves are deep pink. And it has some stripes, especially underneath. She is very healthy and has a few new leaves unfurling. All the plants were packaged up very well. Most easy grower plants love bright, indirect light. But here's the good news. They forgive you if your apartment faces north. ZZ plants handle dim corners that would stress most tropicals. Snake plants tolerate everything from low light to filtered sun. And golden pothos adapts to fluorescent office lighting without complaint. One rule matters. Avoid direct afternoon sun. It scorches leaves in minutes. A sheer curtain fixes this. So does pulling plants 60 cm back from south-facing windows.

Common Problems with Easy Grower Plants

Yellow leaves usually mean one thing. Too much water. So check the soil immediately. Is it soggy? Stop watering. Let the pot dry out completely. This takes 7 to 14 days depending on pot size and temperature. And remove any mushy or black roots if you repot. Prevention is simple. Learn the watering basics and you'll avoid this entirely.

When stems stretch toward light with wide gaps between leaves, your plant needs more brightness. So move it closer to a window. Even 30 cm makes a difference. And rotate the pot a quarter turn every week so all sides get light. But also prune leggy stems back by one-third. New growth will come in bushier. This happens most in Canadian winters when daylight drops to 9 hours.

Dry air causes this. And Canadian furnaces are the biggest culprit. Humidity below 25% crisps leaf edges within days. Group your low maintenance plants together to raise local humidity. Or use a small humidifier nearby. Brown tips also appear from fertiliser buildup. Flush the soil with clean water once a month to wash out mineral salts.

Mushy, dark roots smell bad. That's rot. So act fast. Remove the plant from its pot. And cut away all soft, brown roots with clean scissors. Let the roots air-dry for 2 to 3 hours. Then repot in fresh, well-draining soil. But cut your watering in half going forward. Pots without drainage holes almost guarantee root rot. So always use pots with holes.
