About This Plant

Cuddly Cactus is a woolly columnar cactus native to the arid mountain regions of South America, where it grows in high-altitude conditions with intense sunlight and very low rainfall. Its upright columns are densely covered in fine, hair-like white spines that give the whole plant a soft, woolly appearance unlike most cacti.

The soft woolly look is what makes it stand out. Most cacti look sharp and sculptural. This one looks almost touchable, covered in a dense coat of fine white hair-like spines that catch the light and give it a warm, soft character. It suits a sunny desk, a south-facing windowsill, or a bright office shelf.

The fine spines can irritate skin even though the plant is not toxic. True cacti in the Cactaceae family are not on the ASPCA toxic plant list. This plant poses no chemical risk if touched or chewed. However, the fine hair-like spines are actually glochids on some woolly cacti varieties, which can embed in skin, eyes, and mucous membranes and cause irritation.
