About This Plant

The Monstera White Monster produces leaves with large, clean half-and-half sections, with entire halves or sectors of the leaf rendered in bright white. Each leaf is genetically unique, making every plant one of a kind. It is visually dramatic of all variegated Monstera and a serious collector's specimen.

Monstera White Monster slows or pauses entirely during winter as light drops in Canadian homes. This is normal and not a sign of stress. Reduce watering frequency, skip fertilizing from late October through February, and keep the plant away from cold drafts and heating vents. Maintain humidity above 50% with a humidifier or pebble tray through the dry heating season.

Common Questions

Why does my Monstera White Monster have a leaf with no white on it?

This can happen when a reverting sector of the plant produces a new leaf. The White Monster's variegation comes from sectors of cells within the plant, and occasionally a growth point within a more heavily green sector will produce a solid green leaf. If this continues, prune back to the last variegated node to encourage variegated regrowth from that point. One solid green leaf is not always cause for concern.

How do I prevent the white sections from turning brown?

Three main causes: low humidity, direct sun exposure, and fluoride in tap water. The white portions of the leaf have no protective chlorophyll and are more vulnerable than the green sections. Keep humidity above 50%, position the plant away from direct sun, and use filtered or room-temperature water. Crispy brown white sections cannot recover, but the cause can be corrected for future growth.

How often should I water Monstera White Monster?

Water when the top 1 to 2 inches of soil feel dry. In spring and summer that is roughly every 7 to 10 days. In a Canadian winter, allow a few extra days between waterings as the plant is dormant or nearly so. Always use filtered or room-temperature water and allow excess to drain completely.
