Common Questions
How often should I water the Dracaena Warneckii?
Water when the top inch of soil is dry, roughly every ten to fourteen days in spring and summer and every two to three weeks in a Canadian winter. Always use filtered or overnight-rested tap water to protect the white stripe sections from fluoride browning. Our indoor plant watering guide shows how to check correctly.
What light does it need in a Canadian home?
Low to bright indirect light. One of the most light-flexible Dracaenas available. It handles north-facing rooms and dim Canadian apartments year-round. Brighter light means faster growth and slightly more vivid stripe contrast. Read our guide to light requirements for indoor plants to find the right spot.
Is the Dracaena Warneckii toxic to cats and dogs?
Yes. The ASPCA confirms Dracaena spp. is toxic to cats and dogs. Saponins cause vomiting, drooling, weakness, and loss of appetite. In cats, dilated pupils can also occur. Keep out of reach of pets and small children.
Why are the white stripe tips turning brown?
Brown tips specifically on the white stripe sections are caused by fluoride in tap water. The pale stripe tissue is more sensitive than the green sections. Switch to filtered or overnight-rested water immediately. The browned tips will not recover but new growth will be clean.
Will it survive a Canadian winter indoors?
Yes, very easily. This is one of the best Dracaenas for Canadian winter conditions. Reduce watering to every two to three weeks, keep above 15 degrees C, and leave it in any available light. Read our tips on keeping plants alive in winter for more.
