I received my string of turtle today, though I ordered a small one most of the leaves look healthy and happy I kind of wish it had a few more strands but I’m going to work hard to make sure it’s happy and healthy! For winter protection they wrapped it in cotton I’m super happy with all my plants so far!

The Stromanthe Triostar was the last plant I unwrapped from my second order from mygreenscape.ca. I gasped when I saw this beautiful plant with its long leaves of dark and light pink and green. The underside of the leaves are deep pink. And it has some stripes, especially underneath. She is very healthy and has a few new leaves unfurling. All the plants were packaged up very well. How to Care for Your Small Indoor Plants

Small pots dry out fast. A 3.5 inch pot in a heated Canadian home can go bone dry in 3 days. So check before you water. Stick your finger an inch into the soil. Dry? Soak it. Damp? Leave it. In spring and summer, that usually means every 5 to 7 days. But in winter, stretch it to every 10 to 14 days. And overwatering kills more small plants than anything else. The Dwarf Jade is a perfect example. It stores water in its thick leaves and only needs a drink when the soil is completely dry.

How to Fix Common Small Indoor Plant Problems?

Overwatering is the most common cause. Check the soil. Soggy? Let it dry out completely. But it could also be low nitrogen. If the oldest leaves yellow first, feed with half-strength fertiliser. And check for cold drafts near winter windowsills.

Dry air. Almost every time. Especially November through March. So group plants closer together. Try a pebble tray. And check if there's a heating vent within a metre. That dries things out faster than people realise.

Spider mites. Tiny. Almost invisible until you spot the webs. Wipe leaves with neem oil or 70% isopropyl alcohol. And check the undersides. Repeat every 5 to 7 days for 3 weeks.

Don't panic. Some plants shed lower leaves when light drops. It's dormancy, not death. So cut back on water. Every 14 to 18 days is fine. Keep the room above 16 degrees Celsius.
